Nokia Laments 'Poor Judgment' in Lumia Marketing

STOCKHOLM—Nokia Corp. Friday said its use of misleading marketing material for its new range of Lumia smartphones was a result of "poor judgment" and the company has taken "appropriate action" to correct the problem.
Earlier this month Nokia was called out by independent blogs for not having used its own hardware to shoot promotional videos demonstrating the benefits of the camera of its new Lumia 920 flagship device.

Nokia is joining the fray against Pandora, Spotify and iTunes with Nokia Music, an ad-free streaming music service exclusive to the Lumia handsets. Jyrki Rosenberg, Nokia vice president of entertainment, joins digits to discuss.

The blunder has overshadowed Nokia's highly anticipated unveiling of two new smartphones running Microsoft Corp.'s latest update of the Windows operating system. The problem prompted an internal investigation that was concluded on Friday.
In a written statement, a Nokia spokeswoman said the findings from the internal investigation "confirmed that poor judgment was exercised in the use of the [marketing] materials." She added that Nokia has taken "appropriate action" as a result of the findings, but declined to elaborate on the steps it has taken.
The new features of Nokia's new Lumia 920 and 820 phones, first displayed on Sept. 5, include an improved camera, mapping services and wireless charging. The total package amounts to the "most innovative smartphone in the world," the company's Chief Executive Stephen Elop said in conjunction with the unveiling.
However, Nokia has yet to detail when the phones will become available, where to buy them or what they will cost. U.K. operator Everything Everywhere, a joint venture between France Télécom's Orange and Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile, earlier this week said it would sell the two new Nokia phones, but didn't specify when. U.S. company Verizon Communications Inc. has also said it would sell Nokia's new Lumia devices.
Nokia is likely to face tough competition on the smartphone market this autumn, as rivals including Apple Inc., Samsung Electronics Co. and Motorola all have announced new high-end devices ahead of holiday sales. Apple appeared to have sold out of its initial inventory of the iPhone 5 just an hour after it began accepting preorders Friday, suggesting strong consumer interest.

Sony Xperia miro now available in India for Rs.15,249

The Sony Xperia miro recently went up for pre-order on popular online retailing site Flipkart. Now the device's availability has been confirmed. The Xperia miro is available for Rs. 15,249 as listed on the Sony India website. Users can head to Flipkart as well and avail the smartphone for Rs.14,499.

The smartphone was announced way back in June along side the Xperia tipo and tipo dual smartphones as part of the company's Facebook campaign. The Xperia tipo also went up for pre-order on Flipkart earlier this month, priced at Rs. 9,499 and is now also available in Black, White, Red and Blue colours.

The Sony Xperia miro is powered by an 800MHz Snapdragon processor with 512 MB RAM. It has 3GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card. When announced, the phone was expected to launch in 4 colours: black, gold, pink and silver. Though Flipkart lists only the black variant with the white miro going out of stock, Sony's website lists Black and White colour options.

With two of the three Xperia phones already available, we expect the Xperia tipo dual (dual-SIM) to also show up soon.

Apple: iPhone 5 preorders topped 2M in 24 hours

Orders for the iPhone 5 topped 2 million in their first 24 hours, more than double the amount of its predecessor over the same period.

Since Apple started taking iPhone 5 orders on its website at 3 a.m. EDT on Friday, buyers who have a two-year service agreement with AT&T, Sprint or Verizon Wireless have been able to order the phone for $199 (16 gigabyte model), $299 (32 GB) or $399 (64 GB model).

Apple said Monday that while most orders will be delivered on Friday, demand for the iPhone 5 exceeds the initial supply. As a result, some of the devices are scheduled for delivery in October.
The Cupertino, Calif. company's stock added 1.2 percent, or $8.50, to close at $699.78 on Monday.

The iPhone 5 represents the first major revision of the iPhone's screen size since the first model was introduced in 2007. The new iPhone has an elongated screen _4 inches (10.16 centimeters) measured diagonally_ that allows room for another row of icons and lets widescreen movies fit better. The calendar will now show five days at a time instead of just three. Previous iPhone models had 3.5-inch (8.89-centimeter) screens. The new phone is also thinner and weighs less than previous models. It can operate on LTE cellular networks and sports a new processor and updated software.

                    T. Michael Walkley, an analyst with Canaccord Genuity, said he believes the iPhone 5's "differentiated form factor versus the iPhone 4S" and other improvements should drive strong iPhone 5 sales. The record advanced orders on Friday and through the weekend caused Walkley to revise his previous prediction that Apple would sell 6 million of the new iPhones by September 29. He now believes "Apple could ship 9 million to 10 million" in that time, he told investors in a note on Monday.

Janney Capital Markets analyst Bill Choi said Apple's announcement Monday "suggests iPhone 5 is running well ahead of iPhone 4S." In a note to investors, Choi reaffirmed his earlier expectation that Apple will sell 7 million to 10 million iPhone 5s by the end of September.
It won't be easy for Apple to top the breakneck sales pace set by previous iPhones. Apple said last year that it sold over 4 million iPhone 4Ss just three days after its launch on October 14. That launch occurred less than two weeks after the death of Apple's iconic founder Steve Jobs and as the iPhone 4S went on sale, scores of Apple devotees were still mourning him with candlelight vigils and impromptu memorial ceremonies outside of Apple stores across the globe.

The iPhone 5 will be available at Apple's 356 U.S. stores starting Friday. Each customer who makes a purchase at an Apple store will be offered free personal setup service, which will help them customize their device.

The phone will be available in more than 22 countries on Sept. 28.

Aside from Apple stores, the iPhone 5 will be available at Apple's website as well as through AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, some Best Buy, RadioShack, Target and Walmart stores and certain Apple authorized resellers.
Earlier Monday AT&T Inc. said it set a sales record for the iPhone 5, with customers ordering more of them than any previous iPhone model on the first day of orders and over the weeken

Assassin's Creed: Revelations is an upcoming video game in the Assassin's Creed franchise to be developed and published by Ubisoft. Throughout the course of the game, the three protagonists from the previous games would be featured: Altaïr, Ezio and Desmond. The game is set to be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on 15 November 2011.^[4][5]

Synopsis

The game will feature all three of the series' major characters so far: Altaïr ibn La-Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Desmond Miles. It will take Ezio to Constantinople (modern-day Istanbul) in 1511 AD, consisting of four districts: Constantin, Beyazid, Imperial, and Galata; Cappadocia at the peak of the Ottoman Empire, part of which will be a completely underground city populated solely by Templars;^[6][7] and Masyaf, which holds the old Assassins stronghold to which Ezio travels at the beginning of the game.^[7] He discovers Altaïr has sealed within the fortress an ancient artifact that is said to be a powerful weapon which could end the Templar and Assassin war forever, and has hidden the keys in Constantinople. Ezio uses relics of the first civilization that hold memories of Altaïr to relive his ancestor's experiences, during which players will control Altaïr.^[8]
The game will also continue Desmond's story in the modern day, following the events of Brotherhood, where he will be trapped in the Animus, in comatose state, ^[9] in which he has found a safe mode known as the Black Room. In the Black Room Desmond must attempt to piece his splintered subconscious back together to regain consciousness. Ubisoft's currently released trailer indicates that it will be the last installment featuring Ezio and Altaïr.^[6]

Gameplay

The game will follow the series' standard open-world gameplay. New gameplay additions include an item called the hookblade, which can be used to zipline across the city or grab enemies to yank them in for a combo attack. The hookblade reportedly speeds up navigation by around 30 percent. Along with the hookblade, Ezio will also have 300 different bomb variations at his disposal, which will be craftable.^[10]
Multiplayer gameplay is also making a return in Revelations. The mode expands the basics of online modes from Brotherhood with new characters and locations. Players will be able to customize their characters' appearance and weapons, as well as start a guild and create its unique coat of arms. Matchmaking and game interface will be improved. Ubisoft says that while the component is returning, they’re putting greater focus towards the narrative, as it’s the heart of the franchise.^[11] As players level up in the game, they will move up in their Abstergo Templar rank and gain access to more information about the company. New multiplayer modes will be added to the already existing modes, including "story-oriented quests". Some multiplayer maps will be based in the island of Rhodes.^[8]

Development

In November 2010, Ubisoft's CEO Yves Guillemot teased "something Assassin's related" in 2011, despite earlier statement by Ubisoft Montreal's Jean-Francois Boivin that no Assassin's Creed game will be released in 2011.^[12] Geoffroy Sardin of Ubisoft later confirmed that there will be a "big" Assassin's Creed game in 2011.^[13] Guillemot also explained that ultimate goal for Ubisoft is to release new games in the franchise annually along with other Ubisoft's most popular franchises.The first real trailer was shown on DidItForebodeUSA in May 2011.^[12] In February 2011, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the next Assassin's Creed game would be released during its next fiscal year, which starts on April 1, 2011, and ends on March 31, 2012.^[14]
On April 29, 2011 the game's name was leaked on the official Assassin's Creed Facebook page, with a link which led to a flash file.^[15] The teaser clip included the words, "Altaïr Ibn La-Ahad, Son of no one" in Arabic which hints that Altaïr, the main protagonist of the first game, may once again be the main protagonist of the game.^[15] A third teaser clip for the game showed the city of Constantinople, which hints at it being the setting for the game.^[16] In the E3 rumor section of its April 2011 issue, Xbox World 360 said Assassin's Creed: Revelations' is "unlikely" to be the full Assassin’s Creed 3 we've been waiting on, but suggests that game is also secretly in the works. Assassin's Creed: Revelations is likely to be "another slimline Brotherhood-style offering", Xbox World 360 said.^[17] The game was officially unveiled on May 5, 2011 by Game Informer,^[4] and officially revealed at the E3 2011 Convention.

iPhone 5: 20 most-wanted features

With Apple's WWDC keynote--where the company has typically announced next-generation iPhones--now past, the iPhone 5 rumors continue to fly fast and furious, and it's looking more and more like a fall launch for the next iPhone.
Will it have a completely new design or just be a slightly modified version of the iPhone 4 (the iPhone 4S) with enhanced parts and various tweaks? Will there be a smaller, lower-cost iPhone?
All is unknown. But that hasn't stopped me from updating this list of most-wanted features with information gleaned from the arrival of iOS 5, as well as other new products and services. (I originally posted this column the day after the iPhone 4 launched, which is why you see a lot of comments dating back to June of last year.)
As a reminder, the 20 items in the list are ordered from least important to most in a reverse countdown. I've also included what I think are the odds of Apple actually implementing each request. As always, feel free to agree or disagree with me and make your own suggestions (and to post your own ordered wish list).
Oh, and Android users, don't be shy about extolling the virtues of your phones and saying how most of the items on this list are already available in Android models. It's always nice to see the Android and Apple fanboys (and fangals) mixing it up.

 Introduction
Most of us might have complained about our memory one time or other. But some of you have been frequently complaining about your poor memory. When we generally talk about poor memory we are really talking about poor recollection. Recollection is possible only if the content is retained in memory. This is possible only if we have recorded it into memory. That is, unless we have not assimilated, we cannot recall at all. That is why William James and many others including mnemonists give emphasis to how we record things into our memory.
Even if we record something correctly in our memory, we may not be able to recall it. This is due to many reasons, the main reasons being problems in retention and stress. The former can be solved by systematic revision and the latter by practicing some Stress Management Techniques or using Stress Management Tools like HIT (Holistic Integration Technique) of Dr.V.George Mathew or the Award winning Guided Somato-Psychic Relaxation (GSPR) Technique of Dr.Krishna Prasad Sreedhar The latter can be learned by using audio cassettes.

Now let us discuss five simple techniques to improve memory: Four of these techniques are used to improve assimilation and thus to have longer retention. The last one is a simple strategy for recollection.
Chunking
Perhaps Chunking is the oldest method used in memorization. In this method, the items to be memorized are divided into small and easily memorizable chunks or groups. This method works best when the order of the items is not important.
This method is found to be particularly well suited for memorizing multi-digit numbers (eg., ID nos., telephone nos., etc.) and for committing complicated spellings to memory.
Example:

1. The number 472627607 may be memorized easily if it is grouped as 472, 627,607 or as 47, 26, 27,607.
   These chunks may then be learned by rote. Learning and retention are much facilitated if you further explore the nos. by finding some relationship among these different chunks. Finding the digital root will also be helpful. The more explorations or relations you do, the better.
2. Words like mathematics may be divided into mat +he +mat +ics, Together may be divided into to + get + her; Important may be divided into im + port + ant. This technique will make us learn much faster.
3. The list Apple, cucumber, paper, ink, cabbage, banana, grapes, beans, stapler, orange can be better learned by rearranging and applying chunking as :-
   Apple, banana, grapes, orange, cucumber, cabbage, beans, paper, ink, stapler
   -- 4 fruits, 3 vegitables and 3 stationary items.

If possible, organize the material as meaningfully as you can and think out relationships among each group. This not only improves learnability and retention but also aids in faster and effortless recollection.
Psychologists doing research on Human Memory have found that the capacity of Short Term Memory (STM) for humans is 7± 2 that is from the range 5 to 9 items. So you should take care to keep the chunks you create within this limit.
Rhyming
This is also one of the popular and oldest methods in memorization. This technique makes use of the fact that we have a natural tendency to remember rhymes and rhythms. The following is a very popular example of application of this technique which almost all school students are familiar with.
"Thirty days haveth September
April, June and November
All the rest have thirty-one
February has twenty-eight alone
Except in leap year, then the time
When Febs days are twenty-nine."
If possible create rhymes like this and it will not only aid in improving your memory but in improving your creativity as well.
Mediation/Bridging
In this method, a bridge is built in between the items given to be memorized. This technique is best suited for learning material involving word pairs or material that can be reduced to word pairs. An example often cited by memory experts is the learning of the capital of Poland. The capital of Poland is Warsaw. World War II started with Germany's attack on Poland. Thus it may be arranged as Poland SAW War first.
Here, the word pair to be connected together is Poland and Warsaw. The additional information of the World War II is used as a bridge or mediator in bringing these two words together.
 Again, like other techniques, the mediation technique calls for the learner's active participation in the learning process. This is because one is to bring in the mediator or the bridge from relevant items one has learned.

Bed-time Recital
In this technique, you do your recital or rote learning just before going to bed. The mind in the process of sleeping would then arrange the information in a systematic and effective way when you are sleeping. Psychologists have also found that if you sleep after thinking about your problems there is a better chance that you arrive at a solution the next day.
Steps for Memory Improvement

1. Be in a relaxed mood
2. Write down the things that you are supposed to remember in a piece of paper.
3. Read it aloud (if possible) once or twice and recite it two to three times.
4. Now go to sleep without worrying or thinking about anything.

You will surely retain the item longer and find it more easy to recall it when in need.

Trying by Not Trying
All of us apply this method knowingly or unknowingly. Sometimes when you try to recall you may not be able to recall it at that time even if you are sure that you know it very well. You experience a blocking that prevents you from recalling it. Normally you tend to try again and again but in vain. To handle this situation you just keep away from trying to recollect it and do something else; to your pleasant surprise that information automatically pops up into your mind after some time. This is because even if you stopped trying, the mind is searching for that information and brings it to awareness when it is found. Sometimes the information was blocked when you wanted, and mind brings it forward when the blocking is removed. This is where stress plays its role in hindering recall.
If you are very anxious by nature or very stressful in nature, you may encounter this type of blockage very often. In such case, it is highly recommended that you practise some kind of relaxation technique and thus keep your anxiety and stress away. This is very important because this behavior can bring many undesirable psychological and physiological conditions. You may even consult a Clinical Psychologist in extreme cases.
